7.0 PH ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM

This system is used to adjust the PH of water to bring it back to what is deemed an acceptable range so that it can be re used or released safely to the environment.

The normal application would be in treating concrete wash or wastewater that has been in contact with the laying, cutting or exposing of concrete. Let’s call this concrete wash. Concrete wash is very toxic to the environment. It has a very high PH that harms fish and other aquatic wildlife.

Note that PH 9 is ten times as strong as PH 8 and PH 10 is ten times as strong as PH 9 so when we have PH 11 or 12 its strong stuff.

HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS:

If required, we will run the water through a Siltstopper (Lamella plate clarifier) to remove any water clarity issues this may or may not require the use of flocculants.

The PH adjustment comes in two parts

The first PH probe with activate a chemical dose pump that will inject an acid if the PH is above a set point. Say for example we start with water at PH 11.5 we might bring this down to 9.5.

The water will then enter an agitated buffer tank where CO2 will be circulated through the water with a special pump that recycles the unused CO2 from the top of the sealed tank. The second PH probe will hold the water in the buffer tank at the set PH allowing either continuous or batch treatment.

Co2 is a weak acid that will hold the PH at an acceptable level
